Kirui's jacket was too long, too roomy, and created resistance. The same thing for Kipligat's jacket, and for Shalane's jacket .
Wind jackets need to be close to form fitting, good wind and rain resistance, but does not cause drag. Brooks wins that all day, I have a brooks jacket similar to desi's, but mine is all black.
Sales are going to boom for their jackets.
A huge FAIL for NIKE wind resistance jackets

I have a small version of the Nike jacket- it’s fantastic. No idea why they were wearing oversized jackets.

Thanks for info!

I'd gladly buy one based on Desi's performance. The Nike jacket I have kind of sucks.

Brooks should be making those in that color combo for folks after seeing her run so well - would certainly sell - (I like that combo anyway and would have bought regardless)

I was thinking the same while watching. I saw another elite with, what looked to be, an XL Adidas hoodie on. WTF? These are elites and this is the best gear they can get their hands on? The weather forecast was calling for this all week. No excuse.
I have a Nike windproof running jacket, size medium, and it fits great. Maybe the sponsors only provided XL gear they couldn't sell over the winter. -

I was thinking that they wore loose ones intending for them to be throw aways - once into the race and they warmed up they would ditch them - but then it just stayed too damn cold and wet so they were stuck with them. -

Correct. The Brooks jacket isn’t even waterproof, so Desi would of been soaked to skin just like everybody else. -

I thought the same, but where they had their bibs pinned told what they were really planning. More than one runner had a garment on over their bib indicating that they were planning to ditch it after the start, but the only item I saw come off any elite runner today, was Daska's gloves. -
I used to run in a Mountain Hardware waterproof jacket that still had some adjustable zip areas that could allow air in if needed. The thing about waterproof jackets is that if they don't let water in, it also means they don't let sweat out. Very hard to find an ideal waterproof running jacket.
Those Nike parachutes are a joke, though. I agree that they had all week to prepare for this weather clothing-wise. -

You want a windbreaker, not a WP jacket. From experience, you also want a long sleeve underneath. I've tried short sleeves under a windbreaker, and it's cold. In the 40s with pouring rain, I would have also considered using a fleecy shirt. Everyone out there could have been comfortable and non-parachute-y if they have had more experience and opportunity to try different setups in training. Long sleeves under a wind resistant shell is like the Paramo concept that hikers may have heard about. https://backpackinglight.com/paramo_clothing/ -

I agree with the this. That is why the brooks Canopy jacket works so well. It's a windbreaker with water resistant material, and it is light as hell. I usually wear a dri-fit long sleeve compression shirt under a tech shirt, and have my windbreaker over that. I'm good to go in the wind, rain, etc. That will hold me over in weather 35 degrees and above, so it would have been perfect for Boston. Desi had the right set up. -

Isn't Gortex supposed to be both breathable and waterproof? I thought that was its claim to fame and also why it is usually on the expensive side. -

Kirui finished 2nd. Without it he probably would have finished 10th. -

correction, without it, he probably would have won. -
So after watching molly's interview, she stated that she was wearing a RAIN COAT, so those were nike rain coats that the runners were wearing?
Who instructed them to do that? The trainers, or equipment managers?

Nope. He would have failed inline with the other Africans.
