We have morning practice at 6:15am and our second run is at 12:15pm. Is this too close together and if so would this be something that could cause injury?

No and no.
Why do people think everything "causes injury"? Harden up a little.
I think I was in 5th grade when I did my first run. If I remember correctly, I didn't do my second until 7th grade. I wouldn't necessarily recommend that big a gap, though.
Just bust out all your mileage in one run. Running twice a day takes a lot more of your time away unnecessarily. Also by doing this it keeps your heart rate up for a longer period of time, thereby, leading to greater fitness in the long run.
What’s more likely to cause injury isn’t the time between your two runs but not getting adequate enough sleep and running at 6:15am. Sleep is anabolic, so take that part most seriously. 4-6 hrs between runs is most sufficient and more anabolic too. I stopped doing morning runs and moved it to a short lunch run and a longer evening run in order to get more sleep. Saw a big jump in running performance after that.

if only it were up to me. I totally agree about the 6:15 am thing because i often have to stay up late studying and never get enough sleep.

Except that actual research has demonstrated that two work sessions are more productive than one, even if total work is the same. We studied this in phys ed school.
Interestingly, the researchers found no further gain with a third session per day.
