Is this in an enclosed or open space? How big is the knife? Metal or aluminum bat?
Unless the fighters have practice throwing knives, my money would be on the baseball bat.
Bat has longer reach and most people are more familiar with how to handle a club-like object, due to exposure to sports like baseball, lacrosse, hockey and tennis. The skills required to wield a knife offensively are less likely to be ingrained in the fighters.
Its not even close. I’ll take the bat any day
Knife. If the footwork is good a person with a knife should be able to close the distance while/after the person with the bat swings.
Knife, no question. Knife guy charges bat guy. Bat guy swings. Knife guy blocks with his non-dominant arm, which gets broken. Knife guy then stabs bat guy in the abdomen or kidney. Fight is over in 3 seconds.
Also, I'm assuming we're talking at least a 3" blade. And this works best if both fighters have the same dominant hand. If one is lefty and the other righty, then blocking the bat becomes more difficult. Would still take the knife, though.

There are exceptions to the rule, but lethality at distance wins.
That’s why the Greek and Macedonian spears destroyed the Persians. That’s why the English owned the French in Agincourt. It’s also why air superiority means control of the battlefield. Tactics matter but reach can make up for bad tactics or little training.
I’ll take the bat please. Better yet, gorilla tape the knife to the end of the bat to make a spear or a gun stock war club.

None of that is in any way analogous to a knife/bat fight. If the bat guy doesn't knock out knife guy right away, he's dead. Anyone with a lick of sense with sacrifice a bone to not get cracked in the skull.
A swing with a bat is usually really telegraphed
Bat FTW
Tornado spinning with your bat and you'll win easily.
Bat fight. It's anyone's game.
Let's change this to a machete vs bat, so I would go with a machete.

You don’t need to wildly swing the bat. You can jab repeatedly with it until the knife holder gives you an opening. Then KABAM! Knife guys brains all splattered all over.
Bat all the way.
Lol at the people saying bat.
The thing about a bat is, the extra reach isn’t that much of an advantage. Reason being that a bat is blunt (duh). It needs speed in order to do damage, so you need to seriously commit to your move with the bat in order for it to be effective. You can’t simply hold the other guy at a distance like it’s a spear or sword. Your opponent can just grab it or take a minor hit in order to close the distance. A knife of at least 3 inches is more dangerous 1v1. Bat guy’s best bet is to try to make him lose the knife.

Any knife.

Why is everyone assuming that the bat guy will miss or the knife guy will take a minor hit and shake it off?
Bat guy will pick his spot. Knife guy will be backed into a corner or have to rush bat guy, then he will get clocked. Even a bat shot to the torso or legs will stop knife guy.
Knife guy also has to commit. If bat guy dodges knife guy, knife guy is getting a bat to the back of the head and he's done. Bat guy may recover from a stab, there aren't many places where a single stab is fatal or debilitating, but a bat swing will hit somewhere and it'll hurt.
People picking knife are insane. Actually, that's wrong, they are stone cold stupid.
