Comm Games are at the Gold Coast in Australia starting April 4th! The Kenyan's verse everyone else. McDonald, Tiernan running for OZ! Mo Ahmed for Canada and the regulars from Kenya! Big omission is that Nick Willis isn't running due to injury.
Is this event still relevant?
The Commonwealth Games start next week does anyone care!

It's as important as it ever was in recent times.
People involved will be interested, people from the countries involved will be interested.
Other people won't be. -

Why do those statements have exclamation points after them? None of those are exciting. -
It's not really Kenya vs. the world since Kenya is entering no-names in most events (who will still do pretty well). Joshua Cheptegei of Uganda is by far the strongest in the 5k/10k.

I'd enjoy seeing the wee lass, Laura Muir, run. -

Darn sight more interesting than that silly US college league (the one where as soon as you leave you have to stop running cos Americans can't handle going to work and running even though everyone else can). -
Australia will only care about smashing the living snot out of the English on home turf.
New Zealand will only care about beating Australia on a per capita basis.
Everyone else will be concerned with getting as much action as possible on the Gold Coast. -

It's like how no one cares about the NFL in Europe . Commonwealth countries care . -
I'm looking forward to Bayi v Walker in the 1500, and also a speedy chap named Ian Thompson is running the marathon, I believe.

Ha ha. Make sure you don't send anymore athletes from Commonwealth countries to enjoy the benefits of the NCAA development system from here forward.
BTW, you're welcome for all the years of propping up federations that could never fund and support athletes like we do from age 18-23. -

LOL, those were the days. Let's see if Jipcho can treble? -
The commonwealth games are an odd thing. All the countries that had there women raped and towns pillaged and burned by Britain come together to share a spot of tea and crumpets? I suppose that’s respectful but not sure it’s a joyous occasion to celebrate that part of history.
It would be like Germany having a track meet for Jews and Germans only. -
So, which countries are we talking about here: Canada, Australia, NZ, South Africa, Kenya, Great Britain. Or do England, Scotland, Wales, and NI all compete seperatly?
Am I missing anyone? Maybe India? Possibly Jamacia? Seriously, I'm 43 and don't know.
And why is this such an important meet? Is it just bragging rights among English speaking (sans the States) countries? -

there are 71 countries competing at the commonwealth games, and yes, England , Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all compete separately. they join together and compete as Great Britain in the olympic games, the european championships and the world championships.
cheers.

Depends on how good you are. 40+ years ago, nearly all top Commonwealth runners regarded it as an exciting major. A smidge below the Euro's but still priority. Sometime in the late 70's elites like Seb Coe had lots of other priorities, and the hassle of being part of a major games became a pain and they stopped bothering (in their prime, anyway).
At that point there was a self reinforcing decline in quality, and therefore prestige. So now lower order sub-elites could have 'big games' bragging rights even though the games have been pretty devalued (sorta like Jared Ward in Rio) -
It's lost all momentum in Aus since the ball-tampering scandal. First time I've heard it mentioned all week actually

Really, you seem to forget that America only became great because it was originally part of the British Empire and colonised by the British who brought you Christianity, our language, our literature, limited government, and a system of rights founded in British common law. Where do you imagine, the evolution of such things as habeas corpus, trial by jury, due process, and the rule of law come from - unique in the rest of the world at that time. Look south of your border to view what might have happened had we not stepped in first. The Revolutionary war was a civil war amongst the British colonists and those who wrote your Constitution and Bill of Rights were all of British extraction. -
The Robertson twins in the 10000 m, Hawkins vs. Robertson in the marathon, Kenneth Mungara going for gold, what's not to like?

And what is South of the border is slowly moving north, thanks to the Democratic Party. -
Is this gonna be broadcasted/livestream in the US?
