Do you know anyone who was slow in high school but got really fast after? Doesn't have to be about their speed/fitness in college. Could be years later in a turkey trot when you're both middle-aged.

My first 3 miler in high school was like 30:04 and as a junior in college, I finally broke 20 minutes in a 5k. Hard work pays off
one day in 7th grade PE class we time-trialed and stack-ranked the entire class in a 200
I was in a snowy state [but from the left coast] at the time, sick, and hadnt gone through puberty yet unlike damn near everyone it seemed.
It was between me and the fat kid for DFL and I ended up taking DFL. He shot out of the gate like a cannon and I was slowly reeling him in but never closed the stagger. DFL in my PE class
Years later I would go on to win 3rd place in my AG in a 5k
There were 2 highschoolers who started running some local 5Ks back in 2014. They were both seniors and had never done track or xc. The slower one ran 26xx, 24xx, and 23xx from between May and June and the faster one ran 19:40, 18:50 and 19:10 at the same 3 races.
Now 4 years late both are running for a DII school and the "slower" one from above has PRs of 15:15 and 32:21 and the "faster" one 15:32 and 32:23.
Dude from my high school did not run in high school. He played soccer in high school and ran club track in college. He now a low 2:20s marathoner and maybe has a shot at an OTQ. Pretty good for not running competitively in high school or college.
Usain Bolt was once unable to even stand up.
