Yesterday I went out with the intent of doing an 8 mile 'marathon pace' run (day after an 18 mile fast finish long run) to see if my goal pace was even reasonable as I was doing long slow miles all winter.
I ran by effort 'comfortably hard' rather than checking my watch and found I was slightly below my half marathon pace from last fall. My 'aggressive target' for this marathon is a 7:50 pace but I hit a 7:20 average last night and have no clue what to make of it. I don't believe for a second I can actually hold a 7:20 for the whole thing but beating 7:50 may be a reachable dream...
I have a month left before the marathon, are there any solid ways to gage a solid pace? I was planning on hitting a lot more MP runs leading up to the race to get adjusted to it but I don't know how long I should be holding it for training purposes to confirm it is a good pace.
