Why do we run?
It isn't the most relaxing activity.

It's not? I find it very relaxing.
I find it exciting, not relaxing.
I use to run inorder to be good now I run to keep the weight off and the social aspect.Good God,I am a dink!
The after affect of running is very relaxing. Where can you get a lower heart rate outside of drugs? The thrill comes during racing and after the race knowing you've achieved a good effort. I'm sure after my peak I'll appreciate running for the health and social benefits but I'm still on a quest to achieve my revised goals. I've already broke my original goals. I guess that is what I like the most right now is the chase.
Running is extremely relaxing and enjoyable if you are in shape. If you're not, it isn't. So...you just have to get over that hump, as it were.
I used to love running then got busy with life and stuff. Got out of shape. I started back about 5 months ago and it wasn't fun. But, now that I'm getting back to some decent shape, it's becoming fun again.
At first, you're huffing and puffing and thinking, "Damn, when is this torture going to end?" Now, it's like, "This run feels great!"
i always here the question "why do we run?" and the question really is why do we NOT run?
Long runs clear my mind. Afterwards, I feel pleasantly tired and calm.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of running--I'm always injured and I get really tired of being in pain constantly--but I can't quit because I love the challenge. I love pushing myself to my limit, being competitive with myself and other runners. Running's something that I'm pretty good at, compared to the other local 5k runners, so there's the nice self-esteem boost. And I really love the simple aspect of track. Who can run the fastest, jump the longest, throw the farthest...No one to blame if you screw up. It's all on you.
I only enjoy running on the easy runs under 8 miles. The other days I run because I know I have to do it if I want to get better and those are not as fun. But when I race well, everything I did before seems to be enjoyable.
No.
Why We Run - by Bernd Heinrich, Former 100K world record holder. Talks a lot about beetles, birds, and choking deer after running them down. It's an interesting book.
i never get why people ask this question? Why do people pratice football, baseball, lacrosse tennis any sport its to get party and probley enjoy it.
I like to see how hard I can push myself. I always keep track of how fast I complete workouts and break them down statistically in a notebook. I really like to see the numbers come down. It's a nice, simple and concrete way of knowing that you are getting better...getting closer to your limit.
I also like the calm, exhausted feeling I have at the end of the day when I've run hard. I also like to beat people, it makes me feel like a big man.
its an obsession
Because I hear voices, and they are chasing me.
Everyone shouts at me to run.
You dont quit running because you get old
YOU GET OLD BECAUSE YOU QUIT RUNNING
I loved this book and this quote I found in it "You don't run against a bloody stopwatch, you run against the best that is in you, against all the rottenness in the world, against God, if you your good enough".
I run for the endorphin release I get from a good run, for the thoughts that come out while I run telling me this is my destiny and the chills I get from this thought.
I run through the canyons by my condo on the coast, eating up mountain bikers on steep switchbacks feeling as I am the coyote or bobcat I see on the trails in front of me moving fluidly through the trails in effortless motion and at times feeling like know matter who it was that no one could surpass me. There isn't another feeling like this in the world to me and I have an optimistic outlook about the world several hours after.
It is true when your coming back from an injury or lay off or your just a bit overweight or out of shape running isn't so enjoyable, but knowing that there is a promised land gets you through those hard times.
I can say my training has been going extremely well for this month of may and I am very optimistic at this moment!Do what you love and follow your heart.
