Recruit from Iten, Kenya.
YES, Texas can be very successful in distance running (and I am a college coach). What would it take? The right person with experience, and the right connections to recruit not only the states, but internationally. Resources will not be a problem since Texas has unlimited resources. Certainly the hot weather will be somewhat of a negative, but there are so many positives. I can assure you, if the Texas job opens up, there will be a large, large group of Division I head coaches who focus on distance applying. Not sure UT would want to hire a distance-based coach as a head person, but if they did the program could be highly successful. I would think that most of the head coaches of the Top 20 finishing teams at the NCAA meet would be interested based on the pay they would get, and the unlimited resources.
When is Stevie Magness going to learn how to spell???
What would it take for Univ of Texas to be best distance program in the country?
And underground volcano that raises Austin Texas elevation by ~6000 ft.

What other powerhouses have emerged before? Who could be next?
STOP recruiting in-state hs heroes who overtrain and are IG famous
First of all, SWC was sprint oriented and probably always will be. Arkansas changed things a bit with distance and jumps but the Texas schools/ Big 12have always wanted top sprinters.
Remember when Erin Keogh, the top CC talent in HS from DC Met committed? I thought things might be changing then somewhat but it never really materialized. UT has the academics and money to pull it off. They just have to want to put it together.
Texas can be whoever they want to be. The resources are there. You don’t need altitude to be great. With the new AD maybe all it will take is the right distance orientated head coach to pursuade him that distance is the way to go in terms of a winning and stable team.
