My bound metal retainer extends from the lower left cuspid to the lower right cuspid behind my bottom row of teeth. Yesterday while I was eating the metal part on the lower left cuspid shifted and essentially came off. There was a translucent white patch of "glue" (not sure if you can call it that) that had softened and tasted as distinct as I remember when the retainer went in. Spat that bitter stuff out. No metal is jagged or broken only unbound but still posseses enough of a curvature that it is hugging the lower left cuspid but not as firm as when it was bound.
Does this mean I have to get the whole retainer replaced or will they be able to fix my existing one?
I am thinking in terms of dollars. Wont be able to see an orthodontist for a few weeks.
