Background: I have no HS or college running experience besides one season of freshman HS XC, which I sucked at. A few years after graduation, I read something about blasting off fat with sprints, so I did a few short sprints once in a while. I tried timing them earlier this year out of curiosity. After adding a quarter second or so to convert hand times to FAT, I'd estimate that my FAT times would be low 12s for the 100 and low 25s for the 200.
I ran a 400 twice this year and barely got under 60 by a few tenths of a second. Besides those two times, it's been years since I ran more than 200 without stopping. I think my 400 has some potential for improvement, so I have two questions:
1. How long will it take to build up lactic acid tolerance? 3 weeks? 4 weeks?
2. What would be a realistic 400m goal time that I can achieve by the end of the month?
