It makes sense. There has to be some limit as to who can make up a record eligible relay. Otherwise, what’s to stop some meet from just assembling a team of WVN, Lashawn Merrit, Kirani James, etc. to set a crazy record for a ton of money? A record of international all-stars isn’t really a meaningful record.

College teams do not equal all star teams. Give Texas A&M the American record and USC the world record.

So completely asinine. USC's foreigner, Rai Benjamin, was born in the Bronx and is a US citizen. A team with 4 US-BORN runners does not get a WR because ..... ????? WTF.

What are you talking about, it has nothing to do with nationality. Rai Benjamin transferred from UCLA to USC. Traitors don't get credited with records.

Until the 1970s you could set a WR with a team with mixed nationalitis

What are you talking about? Running fast = running fast - who cares how the team is put together?

It matters if you want the record to be a reflection of meaningful competition. If I take the 4 best runners in the world and put them on a relay team, of course they’ll win every race and set records. But what’s the point of that? Track is a sport of racing, not time trialing. For a record to have value, it should be something that multiple individuals/teams can realistically aspire to beat.

Regardless of the "rules," it is pretty wonky that the indoor world record is the 4th-fastest time ever run indoors.

The lad should represent the US, not use heritage as an easier foray into international comps..

He doesn't compete for Antigua. He did and stopped several years ago. Antigua wanted him to run for them at the Rio Olympics; he declined.

That is correct, if memory serves me well USC had the 440 Yard Relay World Record with Fred Kuller, Earl McCullough, OJ Simpson, and Lennox Miller (Jamaica), about 1968.

Well, he was born in New York, the Bronx, and he is a US citizen, and he has attended school only in the US.

Because he ran for Antigua internationally his national affiliation is Antigua-Barbuda and comes under the current freeze of change of nationalities-- until that is resolved he is theirs not ours under the current IAAF view of things

Citizenship is not the issue, it is his IAAF Federation affiliation that matters

The real question is who cares. Since they are in college they won’t get paid for the record anyways. And it’s indoors...
