The real reason I chose the handle the430miler roughly 17 years ago was not because that was my pr, but because i was running a lot if 430ish miles during that time period, I chose the handle the430miler.
Now, my lifetime pr for the mile is still 427. But my body was really only DESTINED to run a 450 due to my physicality. I overcame that physicality with my mentality, and I eventually started pumpin out 4 smooth laps all under 70 seconds. Even hath I had trained at altitude, there was a physiological limit that I could only physically accomplish, but it's not near what I could mentally accomplish. Running and racing is 99 percent mental, and 1 percent physical training and diet. The rest is mental strategy.
Even a 400 pound man has a physical limitation to how fast he can run a mile. But his mentality is infinite. At this age of 31 years old, i have a physical goal of running 430 again. That goal begins as a mental goal, and I know that deep within my heart and soul I will accomplish that physical goal after I complete the mental goal. I'm going apply all of the physical assistance that science can offer me, such as losing 10 more pounds, abolishing every single hair follicle on my body, training at high altitude, and making sure my mile time trial is in the lowest place possible in death valley California. That is 1 percent of the battle. The other 99 percent is mental and psychiatric. Regardless of my age, my spirit will always be the430miler.
Mentality controls the physicality.
Mentality > physicality
