Couldn't agree more. To run 13:18 after those 2-3 years of inconsistency due to injury (and I'm not making excuses) he has more potential left. I think he can go 13:00-13:05 by career end.
Browne ran 13:16 last season. That makes him the best right now. Until Broe runs that fast this season, Browne is the #1 American.
7:37
"Not the best" you really don't know what you are talking about. Just because you have the fastest time doesn't mean you are the best. i think you have to take into consideration these things: consistency, 1 place finishes, national titles, national teams and so on. I'm here to tell you that going by these standard Broe is the top guy running away!!!!!!!! But yes Browne has a faster time, but so did Bredford over Viren but Viren has the titles!!!
Ok, I think I have to set some standards for letsrun. I know most have hit these standards, but I'll propose:
LetsRun A Standard:
Mile: 3:50
5k: 13:05
10k: 28:10
Marathon: 2:08
Education: Ph.D, You know everything about elite training
LetsRun B Standard:
Mile: 4:00
5k: 13:50
10k: 29:00
Marathon: 2:15
Education: Masters, You can read but you also have already been doing what Canova has said.
I know I haven't hit these standards, but I still say Broe is better.
why such a SOFT 10k standard
More like:
LetsRun A Standard:
Mile: 3:20
5k: 12:05
10k: 25:10
Marathon: 1:55
Education: You, made it, through, middle school,
LetsRun B Standard:
Mile: 3:43
5k: 12:37
10k: 26:20
Marathon: 2:04:55
Education: You can use PowerPoint
I hear he's retiring to a farm in Illinois.

What is 737? It's not a time that Broe has ran.
I believe Bernard Lagat is the best. After that it is Tim Broe or Dan Browne.
Here are the 2004 sub 13:30 male 5k us performances
5000 METERS
13:16.02 Dan Browne (Nik) Heusden GP.........7/31
13:18.61 Tim Broe (adi) London GP..........7/30
13:20.29 ..Broe Oly G..............8/25
13:21.11 Jonathon Riley (Nik) Mt SAC.............4/16
13:25.19 -Louis Luchini (Stan) Mt SAC.............4/16
13:27.06 Matt Lane (Nik) Palo Alto GP.......5/30
13:27.36 ..Broe Oly Trials.........7/16
13:27.61 Bob Kennedy (Nik) Mt SAC.............4/16
13:30.68 ..Browne Eugene GP..........6/19
13:30.85 ..Riley Oly Trials.........7/16
Abdi Abdirahman (Nik) London GP..........7/30
13:30.90 *Matt Tegenkamp (Wi) Mt SAC.............4/16
Here is 2005 so far...
5000 METERS
13:14.71 Bernard Lagat (Nik) Mt SAC.............04/15
13:22.23 Dathan Ritzenhein (Nik) Eugene.............05/07
13:27.45 -Ian Dobson (Stan) Mt SAC.............04/15
13:28.57 Abdi Abdirahman (Nik) Cardinal Inv.......05/01
Also Dathan Ritzenhein is near the top, and I believe Alan Webb also, but it's really hard to say because there are always tons of guys within 5 seconds of each other each year. But I'd say Bernard Lagat is definetely #1.
You never say very much, Bautista, to dissauade anyone from thinking you have a 65 IQ.
But I love your posts.
Pretty great opener for Ritz
