Any shoe can have such wear arrested with a little Shoe Goo applied occasionally. I've never worn out an outsole while using it. NEVER. The upper and cushioning will be long gone before the outsole.
Running stores rarely sell it because of the obvious answer.
To use it on new shoes:
1. Wear shoes until the outsole is roughed up a bit, maybe a week or two's worth of runs. I find around 75 mi for most shoes, less for a shoe like React.
2. Apply coat of Shoe Goo, let dry at least 24 hours, 48 better. Longer is better - that's what she said. Always make sure shoe outsole protected. Use in ventilated area.
It's really best to have many pairs of training shoes anyway, so you can Goo them after the weekly long run and let then dry over the recovery day, or Goo them as needed.
Keep track of shoe mileage or if you're a elite, you can feel when the midsole has given up. Some foams and other material will last far longer with ample structure than in the past.
Save the money for the date, there is hope for some of you.
TL;DR - Shoe Goo makes outsoles last and last and last.
