Hi, just looking for some advice.
I started running 3 years ago at 35 years old. I managed to run 33.28 after 15 months of running on max 60km per week.
I then had a very bad injury (slipped when racing) and was out for a about 9 months.
My target is to run sub 33 mins for 10k. Sub 16 min for 5k and sub 1.15 for half marathon.
I would say I am close to 35 min shape at the moment for 10k after running consistently for 3 months, but not following a programme.
My training in the past has been based on low mileage /high intensity and a typical week might have looked like this:
Mon -Rest
Tues - 40 min threshold
Wednesday - 40 min recovery
Thursday - track session :6x1k or 8x800. 6 x 1 miles, 12x400m etc....
Friday. Rest
Saturday: 30 min threshold
Sunday: long run easy 90 mins usually about 21k
So would be around the 60km Mark each week. High intensity/low mileage.
I am getting back into it again. I don’t want too high mileage but at 38, I’m not sure how well I recover mentally and physically from high volume of intense running.
Thoughts welcome?
