The Gators were pretty happy - and for good reason - in defeat.

Of course an "indoor debut record" is kind of stupid as it reallly is about either internationals or Americans who don't run indoors in HS.
3:01.98 -- Shinnick (46.28), Benjamin (44.63!), Morgan (45.72), Norman (45.35)

Which nations were represented on the USC team?

Three Americans and Rai Benjamin who is from Antigua & Barbuda.

Gators have a formidable 4x400m but two of their runners are internationals as well. First All US team was A&M. M. Kerley anchored in 44.88.

A special thank you to the big burrito at UCLA, Dan Guerrero, for giving Rai Benjamin a complete release to leave the Bruins, and transfer to in conference rival, USC. Way to go, Dan! USC thanks you!
Why does a relay not count as a wr if they arent all from the same country? That is in the rules? I cant imagine the reasoning behind that.

That has been the rule forever. It isn't new. World records in relays are for nations, not put together all-star teams.

$$$$ Talks.
Destitute public UCLA just can’t offer the same up$ide value as private USC.
Fight on!
USC is a 2:57 once they get deep into outdoor season.
Worth noting that Rai Benjamin was born in the US (New York) and intends to compete for the US in the future.

This rule is stupid. You see all star teams from within one country all the time, from athletes that have no connection other than being from the same country. Look at the women's indoor DMR record set last year. Three NB athletes, but they had to get a high schooler (Sydney McLaughlin) to come run the 400 for them. Not to take anything away from the women on that relay, but I would certainly call that an all star team. For example, if they had Sage Watson (Canada) run the 400 leg, should that make the record invalid? I don't think so. BS rule.

I suggest you put in a petition to IAAF to change the rule then. But your "logic" is pretty faulty.
Hs records are by HS team, Ncaa records are by college team, world records are by country. Your logic is flawed unless you want colleges to form all star teams to set the collegiate record? Each of the designations requires team eligibility. Let’s just dump the NCAA xc and track and the olympics even though those are the events of most interest.

Your logic is deeply flawed. There is nothing that prevents an American citizen, born and raised in the USA, from running for a different country to set a relay WR. All that is required is the different country from accepting a mercenary runner to play for their team. . . . . So much for not allowing all-star teams from setting WRs.
Mulkeen's post is a little disingenuous. If the nationality rule didn't exist it still wouldn't be a world record, since another team has run faster. It's not like they've lost record status on a technicality or something.

Nothing to do with money. This was the number one recruit in the country in his event, and he was on a full no matter where he went. Sheer ignorance and arrogance led to this dumb decision. It is an unacceptable move by a destitute program that was once great. Thanks, you bums for Making USC great again.

Okay, but it is kind of weird that the NCAA Record is faster than the World Record.
So does this make it a World Best?
