The fact of the matter is that SHorter is a f***ing pussy who to this day continues to complain about that race where he ran shitty and lost to a better runner. He is definetly an a s s c l o w n !

i agree, hell of alot better then u can run. Shorter could have broke his leg, finished off a 12 pack of beer, and not eaten anything for three days and still beat u on your best day.
I don't get it.
he came in second at the olympics, after he had won the previous olympic marathon, but the actual first place winner was on drugs or something, so shorter shoulda been double gold.
Cierpinski was on the juice.
Who was the winner in the second one?
What was the story with the drugs?

yeah, and the courts said that too, but they still never gave shorter the gold.
When did he test positive?
but oh well, how many olympic marathon gold medals does a person really need? shorter did fine in life with just one.
I see. Never, then?
Don't think he tested positive in competition. But post-German reunification, records from the east became known to the west. The GDR dopers kept good records.

Cierpinski never tested positive, but he was an officer in the East German Army, and I believe he was one of those in charge of their drug program. Much of this info came out when the iron curtain came down. Shorter was the fastest clean marathon runner in Montreal.
hey dickwipe, it was found in the stasi's records that he was part of a state sanctioned doping program
From a story on Westword.com, a Denver alternative weekly.
"In 1990, investigators in the former East Germany examining old Stasi files began uncovering information that caught Shorter's attention. The documents suggested that German physicians and coaches had secretly and illegally orchestrated a massive doping program designed to produce superior athletes. On May 15, 1997, Shorter sent a fax to Dr. Werner W. Franke, a former middle-distance runner who has been one of the most aggressive readers of the old doping files. Twenty-five years after watching Cierpinski's back disappear into the muggy Montreal mist, Shorter needed to know.
Franke wrote back in January 1998. He included a sheaf of papers with columns of athletes' names -- East German Olympians who'd been given drugs in an effort to puff up the country's medal count. Shorter found what he was looking for when he reached Number 62. "This indicates that several middle and long distance runners already in the '70s were part of the doping program of the GDR and that Cierpinski was already on androgenic steroids in 1976," Franke wrote."

Wow. Just calm down, OK? There's no need to call names here. Just take some deep breaths...
Finding records that say that someone was in a program is a far cry from a "positive test," which seems to be what it takes to be "disqualified."
This is why Shorter was, is, and always be the SILVER medalist in that race.
Before EPOians like Geb, El G, Morcelli, Komen, Lagat, Tergat, Khanouchi, Cacho, etc. happened on the scene, distance runners doped "the old fashioned way"---with steroids and blood transfusions, among other things. WC was, after Viren, the most successful exponent of such "better living through chemistry."
yes, consider that the US, Russia, and China are among the most dominant in the Olympics and they all wear red. actually, werent the americans wearing blue uniforms in athens? they should go back to solid red before 2008 b/c the chinese team is catching up in the medal haul.
A pussy? My understanding is that Shorter was injured ( a foot problem of sorts that caused him to make a slight change to his form. Yet he still ran faster than he had in Munich in '72, under the pressure of an Olympic 'thon as the defending champion and favorite, when he hated running in the rain, only to get beat by a guy that was definately juiced. A pussy? I don't blame him for not being able to let it go. Shorter was the best marathoner in the world at the time, ran an great race under very tough conditions, was robbed. He should be awarded the gold, even now.

So Marion Jones and Barry Bonds are fine upstanding individuals in your book. There is legal logic, and there is "the spirit of the law." Newsflash: they aren't the same thing. There's also this other concept called ethics; you might want to google Aristotle and get started on that one.
