Didn't want to let the news pass that 80 year old John Keston of McMinnville, OR recently ran a 6:48 mile, a minute faster than the old record. Guys like John & EWhitlock are making it difficult to find words to describe their performances.

I'll be lucky to be able to get out of the couch at that age (if I make it)

absolutely ridiculous what these older guys are doing these days. nice job.
I'm not impressed.
If you think that's filthy, which it is for an 80-year old guy, Ed Whitlock could probably run 10 of those. His 10k pace is right around 6:00, as of September.
Let me rephrase that: I'm 83 years old and I am still able to hobble down the hall at the rest home at 6:20 pace, minimum, when they're serving chicken livers in the dining room. 6:48 on a track ain't s--t.
Scott,
Thanks for the info. I like to see the old folks getting it done. Amazing what these guys are doing.
Congratulations John

That's probably true, but there's a big difference between 73 and 80.

Hey who are you calling an "old folk"?
Following up- 100% for the mile on the WAVA tables (which Whitlock has acheived at the marathon/10K) is 5:58; Keston's mile is 88%. So the record will be ripe for picking when Ed turns 80 (I recall Ed having run about 5:15 for 1500 earlier this year). Nonetheless it's great to see that John is still out there and getting it done; he is one of the greats.
This deserves a look by the evening crowd.
