Make sure you do it in pre tax dollars. When that's used up, go to after tax dollars

The latter is the wrong idea, but the former is truly stupid.
That you Flagpole? We know Trump's an idiot and yer gal Hillary would have made the country better for everyone, right!?
Keeping $277 more a month. Still paying off a student loan so that should speed it up a bit
Between Obama's "affordable healthcare" and Trump's "largest tax cut in American history" I wenr from receiving $1500 to owing $3500.
I doubt they'll ever get it from me. Siya-fuckn-nara

No I think what he meant was is Trump's an idiot and so is Hillary. Massive tax cuts with no decrease in spending is a fiscally irresponsible thing to do as is tax increases and massive increases in spending.

Except for the fact that virtually every time there are tax cuts revenue actually increases.
$97. But at the expense of my children and grandchildren's future.
^This. There will be no cuts in entitlement programs and yes that is the fault of both parties. But, republican voters need to realize that GOP members of Congress don’t actually want to cut entitlement benefits (social security and medicare) any more than the Dems because they know that despite the fact that some voters in their party say they want these cuts those same voters mean they want to cut OTHERS benefits not their personal benefits. Once voters realize that entitlement cuts actually effect them personally they change their tune, get pissed, and blame whomever is doing the cutting—which in this case would be republicans. Cutting benefits is politically toxic for either party which is why it never happens.
So, we seem to be in this cycle where the GOP takes over cuts taxes, increases spending (defense spending or starts an unnecessary war like Iraq), promises entitlement cuts but doesn’t do it, loses the next election cycle so the cuts really don’t happen, and then we have an economic crisis. Wash, rinse, and repeat over and over again. The result being a very, very dumb fiscal policy overall by the US.
I like the IDEA of tax cuts and I definitely am in favor of some sort of law that forces spending cuts PRIOR to any tax cuts being made.
We cannot sustain this cycle.
There are a lot of valid points that have been stated here....BUT isn't this really a way for the Republicans to earn your vote in November?

Absolutely!
If my local GOP candidates where able to accomplish (not just promise) the following I would vote for them but the same list is true for Dem candidates....
1) pushes for legislation and/or pushed for a constitutional amendment requiring any tax cut to be tied to a dollar for dollar cut in spending OR alternatively tied any big government spending program (like infrastructure or increased defense spending) to be tied to a tax INCREASE (basically I want to eliminate un-funded mandates on both the tax side and the spending side)
2) pushes for a constitutional amendment that essentially invalidates the SCOTUS Citizens United decision
3) found a way to not deport DACA recipients via a compromise
4) found a compromise that allowed for tougher immigration enforcement and border security WITHOUT building a physical wall
5) removed marijuana from schedule one designation and allowed states to regulate the drug as they see fit
This makes too much sense! Will never happen. certainly not with trump in the white House. By the way, Pay actually went down by $38 per fortnight. Combine that with state adjusting their cut, gas tax going up 6% and new tolls, I stand to lose quite a bit. In addition, Cobra plan for health insurance predicts our costs will go up by $200-$250 per month because of a decrease in the number of "healthy" people in the pool. Overall, particularly as these "massive tax cuts for the middle class" are phased out, I'm pretty much screwed. But, hey, if I had put hundreds of thousands into an IRA over the last 45 years instead of putting 4 kids through college I'd be ok.

What's your situation that you saw a 4% tax increase?
Pretty middle class and standard income and deductions. I did get a 2% raise at the end of the year. But let's wait until Feb checks roll in before casting final judgement.
I think we work at the same place.

Dude, with the expected growth in the GDP from the new tax bill our deficit will be whittled down very fast....Much faster than under the moron who just spent 8 years in the White House....And who DOUBLED the deficit....
A whopping $12.32... $320 for the year if it holds true.
IMO, pooled and directed toward a national need would be a better fate for that money. What comes to mind is a quote from the Swiss friend of a travel writer:
[Travel writer] “How can you Swiss people be so docile about paying such high taxes?” Without missing a beat, he replied, “Well, what’s it worth to live in a country where there’s no hunger, no homelessness, and where everyone — regardless of the wealth of their parents — has access to quality healthcare and education?”

Really? You don't plan to pass any of your wealth onto your kids?
$105 more. But I work in a sector of health care highly dependent on fed government funding, in a deep blue state, so sooner or later will start feeling the hurt. Unless Wall Street bonuses can provide a life line to the state budget. It feels good now, but long term is going to suck for me.
Yeah...I'm getting more money but, but, but.....I'm still a sad, depressed liberal who wonders why the World is so unfair...

Mine went up $70. Pretty nice I suppose.
I must make a lot more than shmucks like you. I rarely look at my monthly take home, but this thread inspired me to do so. I'm up several hundred thanks to the tax cut. Trump should still be deported, in my opinion, and this will all end badly, but I'll go buy a nice leather jacket now.
