I am in the same predicment as you, Since i need to make some money for college even though i have some scholarships, i ahve to pay the liuttle bit left off...plus gotta pay for apartments and shaz, so Im getting worried. My friends mom is the manager at a local grocery store, so i might eventually get a job.

All i can say dude is apply to all the jobs nobody wants like your local grocery stores. They always have positions avaiable.

you can always ask around you neihborhoods if you can mow their lawn. Just get about 15 people to mow their lawn. Say you will do both front and back yards for a flat rate of 15 bucks.

I got back a week ago from college. Prospects are grim at best for summer jobs for college kids, even though I live in one of the top ten richest counties in the entire country. Employers here don't want me since I don't go to the local state college(excuse me for going away to a selective, private liberal arts college 4 hrs away). I interviewed with the local parks and rec department wendesday (got back Tuesday night) but they won't give me an answer til next Thursday since they are gay are still taking applications til Friday. Thank god this is my last time looking for a summer job since I'm going to be graduating in less than a year.

Grocery store prospect is grim. I applied to work at a grocery store part time, but it is 30 minutes away and part time. I haven't heard back yet. My last resort locally appears to be Wal-Mart, and I don't think they are hiring.

You, unlike the original poster, probably don't have a job because you are clearly a pretentious asshole.

im gonna have to agree with that, im sure there are other reasons for you not getting a job (with the attitude you have). honestly, the best summer job in the world for college kids our age is to do something outdoors, for not too many hours so you can still run and booze at free will. if you put some effort into it you can make a solid 2k in a summer doing odd jobs and lawn mowing. i also happen to go to a nice little new england liberal arts school, and from a rich zip code (though my neighboorhood is the one that drags down the average income). its all about applying yourself and getting shit done. if your gonna tell yourself they dont want you for those reasons then you are in for some nasty surprises later in life.

excuse me. When I was away at college, i was looking over the classifieds section daily on the city's newspaper online and talking to friends that go to the college work that work part-time asking them if where they worked was hiring. When i was home for easter break, i started looking for a job. Prior to that, I was looking at internships across the country and most of the problems with that is none of the ones I was interested/qualified for was in a reasonable driving distance of home which would have meant I needed housing that would be another expense which after the cost of housing, food, internship fee, I would have needed up losing money by working. I'm sure the only way to get work is to lie on your application, telling them that you go to the local college and then finally fess up to tell them that you are leaving the area in a couple of weeks for college. I went all over town and surrounding towns but there is nothing. I enlisted with a temp agency a few days ago, they have been no help at all.

and click on your city and its variety of job listings. You can even post on the site that you are looking for work on its bulletin boards. No promises of course, but you might be able to find something worthwhile around town or elsewhere if you're thinking of getting away for the summer. Good luck.

Also, for mowing or general yardwork or debris hauling at $8-12/hour (whatever the going rate is), you should be able to get some gigs with posting flyers in your neighborhood. Flyers like: "Young, healthy, hard-working, strong, honest, seeks to do outdoors, yard and landscape work, bla-bla-bla, call me at ... , etc." Also works with shoveling snow in the winters.

Don't knock it. Yardwork is good for cross-training and on some occasions will save you trips to the weight room.

I got back from University at the end of april and have had 3 job offers. However I am still unemployed.

I'd love to work in the Dells or Door County. I'd love to have a job, period. Do they provide housing? I haven't seen anything looking on summerjobs.com for Wisconsin.

They should be able to help you. Or just get in your car and do a road trip. Most businesses are just starting to hire for the season. Great state parks to run in.

Go be an assistant cook at the camp I used to work at near Omaha, NE... it's an amazing place.

If you want time off to go back to Wisconson for a week or something, let them know ahead of time that you have a family wedding to go to or something like that. It's an awesome place to work, and the dining hall is one of the only air-conditioned places on camp grounds.

On the list of jobs, click on assistant cook (one of the only ones not filled). If you're good with kids, they'll probably change jobs for you by the end of the summer.

call any one of the Dells resorts and they can hook you up with the proper people to speak with...they have hundreds of jobs. in fact, they have so many, they bring over college aged kids from europe to work there in the summer because that don't have enough locals to fill the slots. they have some sort of housing assistance, but i don't know the details. get off your ass and show some initiative and start making phone calls. it really isn't that hard if you start shaking some trees...there are tons of things out there.
