So, everyone on the Nike Plus App got first crack and the two new colorways on Monday/Tuesday. Today both colorways were fully stocked at lunch. Totally gone as of 4:45 my time. Has any other shoe in the history of running apparel ever been this popular? FYI the shoes are 100% legit!!! My first marathon race in them was almost a 5 minute PR and I'm not peaked out yet.

I'd be curious to know if they made an exact pair of vaporflys without the material that makes it a "vaporfly" (placebo) and tested it against a pair of true vaporflys.

You would have to change out the sole pattern, midsole material, carbon fiber, and maybe upper design for this to be true. More studies with a placebo would certainly be interesting.
If you have run in the Vaporfly and any of hundreds of other shoes over the past 20 years, you wouldn't ask this question. They are better than any shoe that have ever come before it, period. The only people who don't believe it, or whine about the price haven't even run in them. There is a reason they can't make them fast enough. It's because they are damn good and you run faster in them than in other shoes.
I think I'll just wait until Adidas comes out with their shoe. They'll probably be cheaper. Never been a bike can anyway

Actually, I believe (and think I read) that it is an intentional attemp to create demand. Nevertheless, I ordered a pair today (in the new blue). I am a little scared because some people say they are sized a little large.

I can confirm that this is the case. D-bag move, if you ask me.
Also, it seems a risky strategy because the shoes can easily be immitated by other companies. Reebok is already using the same foam, and it's likely that the carbon plate doesn't do much but add stability to an otherwise squishy shoe. (For the plate to really work, it would have to be carefully tuned to the individual runner.)

That is because they sold out. They remove the listing when they run out. Did the same thing with the last colorway they had. What was interesting is they never even listed them under Nike with other shoes, you had to use their search engine to find it.

I was at The Running Event last month in Austin. I had three separate conversations with people in the industry. One well known coach, one shoe/product brand rep, and an individual who works for a shoe company in the shoe design company. The coach, the rep and the design guy were not affiliated with each other in any way, All three basically said that the VF is the real deal. Two of them said that the other brands are scrambling to make something similar but are behind the curve.
