So i'm looking to decide upon my marathon pace. I am hoping to dip under 3 hours, probably closer to 2.55. This time has been picked pretty arbitrarily, however, and i'm wondering if I may be being too ambitious/ not ambitious enough.
I have a pretty solid base of a couple of years 40 mpw. I have a half marathon PB of 1.18.30, although i'm currently in around 1.23.00 shape.
Since decided to run a spring marathon I have upped mileage to 60 MPW. I do tempo sessions (5x 1 mile at 5.55 with 1 min rest), mid week long slow runs (12-16 miles at 7.30 ish) and normally a 16-20 mile long run.
Today I ran 18 miles at 6.40 pace (consistent splits) which felt hard but aerobically fine.
Do you think 2.55 is a sensible marathon target, or, 10 weeks out. Could I push this further?
