OK so the way he describes it is pressure/tightness on the outside part of his calves
Also, he is a sprinter and says that it hurts most at the start of acceleration/jumping/etc.
anybody know what this may be? I had though compartment syndrome but I hope I am wrong
Just underwent bilateral fasciotomies for compartment syndrome. What your teammate describes is not CECS. Compartment syndrome is a consistent pain, not something that only occurs at certain moments... many other differences as well. While he describes the feeling of pressure, and compartment syndrome does involve pressure within the muscle, I certainly never described my symptoms as a feeling of pressure in the calf. More awful tightness, along with foot numbness and loss of the ankle muscles..
Good luck to your teammate, and be glad that compartment syndrome is almost certainly not an issue for him.
