I'm curious how much mileage impacts performance.

What happened in 1980? Too many miles? Massive blow up? Injury?
Nice progression before that, though.
Nice progressions !
I assume real life got in the way .
My conjecture is you ran Boston , which I commend you for .
If not , what course(s) ?
Save for the Fall marathon .
1977 Santa Monica
1978 Culver City
1979 Palos Verdes
1979 Gales Creek
1980 Ave of the Giants (training indicated I was ready for 2:45 but got a viral infection in my lungs the week before)
1981 DNF was Culver City but had bruised my quad the night before playing ping pong at our XC team party probably was was in 2:50 shape
40mpw - DNF
60mpw - 2:58
90mpw - 2.31
Hopefully 2.2xthis year...
4:15 - just started running
3:15 - bit more serious
2:50
30 -- 5:54
60 -- 3:31
90 -- 3:11

Similar to mine. When I debuted with 30 MPW I hadn't a shoot at world class and just ran 2:05 :(
When i ran 60 MPW I somehow managed a 2:03 :)
After that I overdid it a bit and ran just 2:05/2:06 again after 90 MPW.
Cheers!
