Does anyone know where I can find information about Pat Porter?
Does anyone know where I can find information about Pat Porter?
I do not have much personal info on him other than he was arguably the best x-c runner the U.S ever produced. No insult to Criag Virgin & his 2 World X-C victories. I have quite a few of Porter's great X-C races on tape if you are interested in seeing him actually run.
What do you want to know?
Hey Treacy, no insult to John Treacy but Virgin's win at Paris
is the best X-C race I have ever seen & I have a bunch on tape. Let's talk trade.
Hey, yeah that was a great as well. I just really have more of a fondness for Treacy & his victories in Glasgow & Limerick. That would be great if we could do a trade. Let me know how I can get in contact with you.
OldFatVigilante, did you run for Joe I.????
I'd love to see those videos. Could you make copies or a CD/DVD?
I would gladly pay for a decent DVD of as many of Porter's races as you can get together.
i would pay for video's of porter and virgin
I was hoping to know what type of training he did.
Pick up Vigil's book, it's all in there.

Couldn't tell by looking at him. 6'0" 128
I am sorry to say that I only have the Porter races on VHS right now. If anyone out there is still interested in trading just let me know. As for the 1984 World X-C Champs video both Porter & Virgin are profiled & interviewed there hometowns (Boulder & Lebanon). Porter is shown running around the grass circuit that he does his 16x 700m workouts on & Virgin is shown training as well & also interviewed in his store.
i'd be interested in the Porter video/s. what kinda price are you thinking for a copy. thanks
If you can find a video store that will put them on DVD for you, you can ebay them and easily cover your costs and make a few bucks on the side.
Colorado Stats,
You forgot that on Tuesdays we also went to the Dunes and Fort Garland...
Something like 4-6 weeks we went to Rock Creek...
then 2-3 weeks we went to the Sand Dunes and
then 2-3 weeks we went to run hill repeats at Fort Garland.
On Thursdays... didn't we do 7 X 1 Mile?
Both Monday and Thursday workouts were ran at Cole Park. Cole Park is one of the best workout places I have ever seen. I sometimes wonder if Alamosa created it for Coach Vigil.
Every morning.... Pat would eat breakfast at the Campus Cafe restaurant... The best breakfast place I have ever eaten at in the world. It was the type of place that remembers who you were and what you like... I lived next door to it one year. Awesome Blueberry Pancakes!
Nope, it was 6 x 1mile. We actually started out at 8 working our way down to six (we stayed there for the bulk of the season) which was then worked down to that hellish all out mile. The weeks before the mile we did a 2mile all out followed by 3 x 1mile. Next week, 2mile all out then 2x1mile. Second to the last week, 2mile all out followed by 1mile all out. Final week - 1mile all out.
Cole Park - awesome.
Campus Cafe - more than awesome - I'll take a breakfast burrito smothered in Pops Green Chili thanks - and a Cinnamon bun to go - without raisins but plenty of butter - im starving now - or Eggs Alamosa with that Cheese Sauce.
Did you ever work at the Campus Cafe? Nevermind, of course you did - whether you got paid for it or not. I think we all "worked" their.
I remember the first time I went to the Campus Cafe... Coach told me to order a roll and then he just got toast.
The Cinnamon rolls were at least 6" in diameter..
What year did you guys do the 2 mile more then once? I remember doing it once.
Rabbit Run?
