Hi guys,
I've been running for a little over a year now and can run 800m in 2:25 and 1600m in 5:35. My volume has always been around 15 mpw. I am hoping to get as close as possible to 2:12 and 4:59 by mid May. I'm planning on starting base building in 2 weeks.
I was hoping to get some advice on what training should basically look like in the base phase, and how it should progress/change up to May. I'm very aware that my mileage is pitifully low and I plan on bumping that up gradually to something more respectable but that's all I know with respect to proper training at this point for middle distance.
I'm also wondering if the times I'm targeting are unrealistic? I know it's a big jump to improve 30 seconds+ in a ~4 lap race/10+ seconds in an 800m but is it something that's reasonable to shoot for? Of course, I won't be disappointed if I don't hit these targets; I'd be very happy with 5:15 and 2:19 for example, but I'd thought something more ambitious wouldn't hurt in addition to these intermediate goals.
Appreciate any help I can
Additional information:
I'm male (which makes my slowness even more painful lol)

My speed is ok relative to/for my level of ability I suppose (13.2 100m, 27.6 200m)
