I've been doing some runs on my 10-year old LifeFitness T3 treadmill, as we've had some serious snowstorms and the frigid cold a lot of you are also experiencing. I'm also running outside, so although I will get the "just run outside" answers, I still want to find out what is wrong with my treadmill. I suspect I need a new motor, as it's getting old.
When I first start running on it, the speed will fluctuate on its own if I turn it up past around 8:30 miles. It's pathetic at the start. It will keep slowing down momentarily then go back up. 7.5, 7.2, 7.1, 7.3, 7.5, 7.7.... each change in speed lasts a second or so. I barely notice it, but it's happening for sure.
After a mile or so, I can start edging it up. I've found that I can get up to 9 mph by around 2 miles, and close to 10 mph by 4 miles into the run. If I try to push it, the fluctuations start up again, and I have to slow it down a tad and wait a minute more the start edging it back up again. By 5 miles into the run, I can successfully run 10 mph and above.
What's going on?
