I'm toying with the idea of doing a significant chunk of my mileage by running uphill on a treadmill. I seem to be very injury prone the last year and a half, incurring injuries pretty much every time I start to get into good shape.
I've found I can get my heart rate up running at a very slow, relaxed pace on the treadmill (like 6-8% incline at 10-12 minutes per mile gets my HR in the 140 range) with what feels like minimal impact and strain.
Anyone ever tried this strategy to train? Seems most people cross train when their bodies don't tolerate high mileage running but I absolutely hate the bike, elliptical, etc and would rather run. I'm wondering if I can get my mileage up (or rather time spent training...since if I'm running 10-12 minute miles the mileage will be lower for the same amount of training) pretty high with this strategy alone.
