Screw Lindgen. I ran faster times than he did in high school. ANd I didn't ditch my f***ing family.

Nor did your father beat you.
Gerry Lindgren will be flying out complements of Eugene Running Company for a book promotion at the Eugene Challenge 1 mile race. This is the making of a true track town celebration. Bill Dellinger and Pat Tyson will also be there as honorary starters. Music and great prizes food and beverages will be available for this evening event.

Sounds like I picked a good year to go...
Let me check my calendar. I think i'm either going to a rock fight or re-union of Menudo concert that weekend.
Spotlight seems to be in Eugene. A town transforming!
What could Lindgren run a mile in these days? sub 5? 5:30?
STUPID analogy! And right after such a good post on another thread, what a shame.
How was his post any good? It was poking fun of the greatest Highschool runner, and if not distance runner of our time.
He seems more like a whiney bitch to me.
Open your eyes man! The guy is crazy. I dont want to be anywhere near that assclown.
He was poking fun? Looks more like he was making a point as to the maturity and irresponsibility in Lindgren's decisions outside of his high school running career. To try to dismiss those with some inane comment about speeding on the highway is moronic. As if you aren't being a whiny bitch now.
crazy like a fox.
Why don't you go to Eugene and meet the man you are anonymously disparaging. You can then come back and tell what you thought of him and have a little credibility.
Posting this kind of garbage shows more to your human condition than Gerry Lindgrens.
no excuses, whats wrong is wrong.
I wish people would put a little effort into their subject before passing judgement -- but that is the essence of the U.S. -- we all believe we have a right to an opinion -- it's just that we don't seem to ever get the idea that some opinions are significantly better informed than others. Gerry truly thought he was worthless but through running felt like he could contribute something to the world. He constantly heard his mother and father fighting and thought it was because of him -- if he didn't exist the family would get along just fine. So, when he and his wife fought constantly at one point he felt that if he left his children wouldn't feel like they were in a household constantly being torn apart. I'm not saying I agree with his decisions, but if you read enough about him you'll be able to understand his logic -- albeit a logic frought with painful consequences. The man has suffered enough for his painful decisions. I do think that the children should have had this explained to them by their father -- everybody lost in this situation. If you'd like to know more you should read the excellent Kenny Moore article about him from 1987 (sorry I don't have the link.)
What did Lindgren do to his family?
He's now infamous for having left his family and moving to San Fran before moving to Hawaii--there are numerous articles about his life around.
Then the responsible thing to do would be to get professional help and deal with the issues, not run away from the problems and hide. I don't understand the logic of refusing to accept any responsibility.
As stated above you won't be able to "understand the logic" if you don't do some research. The vast majority of people, especially here, come with proud-to-be-uninformed stead-fast opinions. I suggest it's possible to see how he was thinking at the time if you do the research. In no way do I suggest you'll agree with him. Either way it's a lot more interesting (and fun) to chat with informed people than uninformed people -- and if it matters to you you'll certainly understand more about this fantastic distance runner.
I AM informed, you jerk, I've read all the articles and interviews several times.
