Hey folks
I know this has probably been beaten to death over the years but I can't find it in the search function so I'm gonna ask...
I'd like to know if it's common for treadmills to be set to a positive incline by default. My gym has three types of treadmills and I swear that on two types I'm running uphill (and 15-20 secs/mile slower), and on the third I'm running on flat ground. I'm thinking about bringing a level and actually measuring the incline.
I am NOT asking what the equivalent to running outside is blah blah blah, I know that there's no wind resistance in the gym, but there's also no air circulation and I sweat a ton so I think it balances out somewhat. What's more important is that 1. my achilles bothers me on uphills and I'd rather do hard workouts on flat ground, and 2. I seem to be getting wildly inconsistent results running on different treadmills and it's throwing off my workouts. It could be that the calibrations are wrong, but I kind of doubt it.
Thanks,
David
