Damn, that's got to be the oldest conference championship record in this country. Going on 70 years! Wasn't it a world record when he jumped it?
come on Sully, help out your fellow Canadians. What's that in metric?
Never mind. I read the "official letsrun.com posting rules" and spent the past few minutes googling it to find the answer:
26.6875 feet = 8.13435 meters
That's unbelievable!!!
That is really pretty amazing!
Probably wind assisted and mis-measured though.
It was indeed a world record, and it wasn't broken until 1960 (by Ralph Boston).
It was also his only jump of the competition, at 3:25 pm. Ten minutes earlier, at 3:15 pm, he had run 9.4 for 100 yards, tying the world record. Nine minutes later, at 3:34 pm, he ran 20.3 for 220 yards, setting another world record. At 4:00 pm, he ran 22.6 for the 220 yard low hurdles, setting yet another world record.
Hope you're joking about that. Wind +1.5 m/s

Trying to be a smart aleck, but I see other people actually know the story. Some days it just all clicks, huh?
actually, they probably just read the post above that which stated "it was his only jump of the competition."
Just goes to show you how weak the big ten truely is. That crap wouldn't stand in the SEC. OR would it?
