Having trouble dealing with language in some high school rules regarding acceptable prizes that can be received.
Apparently MERCHANDISE can be accepted up to a $100 value, but money cannot be accepted.
There is a race this weekend that will give out $25 gift certificates to age group winners and $100 gift certificates to the overall male and female finishers. These gift certificates are for a sporting goods store.
To me, this seems like the gift certificates should be allowable since the recipients will use them to purchase merchandise.
The exact language reads - "accepting any amount of money or any kind of merchandise
valued above $100 retail"
Many coaching friends feel that their athletes can accept anything including cash, gift cards, merchandise as long as it does not go over the $100 threshold.
What say you?
