What are some of your go to comebacks when acquaintances or co-workers call you out for doing the thing you love? (running)
I don't mean nice clever ways of laughing it off either. I mean ways to show people that you're not a doormat.
Or what would you say to someone if you were to just rip them apart for disrespecting you? Not caring at all for the consequences or awkwardness.
Yeah? Well the jerk store called, they’re running out of you!
Or I just whip it out and smack them across the face with it.
Can you give an example of an acquaintance or coworker making fun of you for running? I've never gotten any (direct) disrespect about my running from anyone that I can recall.
I honestly can't even imagine someone making fun of me, or anyone, for enjoying running. Is it like, "You're gonna go running? How stupid!" or is there something specific these people say, like, "You're gonna go running? You must have terrible hand-eye coordination, loser!"
I am honestly baffled by this question.

Why do you need to stand up for yourself? If you like running, then keep running. My guess is that those people are just playing with you but you are taking it way too offensively. Stop being so uptight. Stop being so weak.

Running is the reason I'm not a fata55 slob like you so I'm pretty sure I'll continue doing it. Maybe you should give it a try.
The "boring" criticism is the most stupid one.
For some reason, lots of people think that taking a run from A to B must be boring, BUT if you walk/cycle/drive that same distance that isn't boring.
"There are plenty of reasons for why I run. I'd like to make it to my 50's. I don't want to puke when I look at my naked body in a mirror. I want to be able to see my penis. Now get out of my way, you hog."
If you're getting picked on as a grown adult it has nothing to do with running, you'd get picked on no matter what sport you're into.

Usually when people are trying to tease you, they like seeing it get under your skin. So either defending yourself or fighting back are things they usually enjoy engaging in.
For me nothing is more effective than showing pretty much no emotion on your face as your stare at them for a second or two (and yes, that is a very long stare) and just walk away. Or if you need to be working in the same space, completely ignore them.
I think you're working/hanging around with the wrong crowd. People who are remotely interesting and driven will have hobbies and passions of their own, so they'll understand your love for running even if they don't engage in that specific activity themselves.
(This assumes that the people in question are making jokes and comments that are intended to be malicious. If the comments you're referring to are just lighthearted ribbing, then my advice would be to toughen up and not take it seriously.)

You might also try the direct approach and just go right up to them and tell them that
you do not like it when they do that (whatever it is). This approach has been known to work
because you are calling them out on their bad behavior.

You guys are so antisocial. These people are might be trying to befriend you and break the ice with a teasing joke. Stop taking yourself so seriously and go make friends.
My guess is that they aren't making fun of your running. They are making fun of you, and you happen to run, so they use that, too.
Am I right in guessing that when they aren't making fun of your running, they are teasing you about something else? Why do you think this is?

Ha ha. I see how you could think this. But really, I have all the friends I want and spend zero time with people I don't want to spend time with. I actually find this to be somewhat rare. So many people try to be agreeable and hangout with others only to find that half the time those people annoy them, at best, and often make them feel pretty bad about themselves/what the ydo.
Also, it is very easy to tell when someone is making a lighthearted, we're in this conversation together kind of joke and someone who is directly out to belittle your accomplishments. I answered assuming the OP was referring to the latter. Though I could be wrong in that assumption.
