Nobody has any other suggestions? I've heard lots of complaints about shin splints developing from the hard surfaces in training. Does anybody know what might be good shoes to prevent something like that?
I expect you'll get suggestions for massively cushioned shoes in response to this. But thee has been research done, bits of it turn up now and again but vanish pretty quickly, showing that shoes with more cushioning actually create MORE shock and impact when you run in them. Search for Steve Robbins, MD., there are a few others too. This has been measured with impact sensors. Evidently your foot wants to know what it's going to land on and needs to feel the surface. Add layers of cushion underneath your foot and you unconsciously slam your foot into the ground harder in an attempt to feel the ground. Just in case you want to go another direction.
