What I'm looking for:
low cost of living
4 seasons, mild climate, I can't do sweltering summers anymore or depressing winters
A place where at least the urban areas are progressive
Generally good schools, they do not have to be top notch private schools, just good public school system
A place where people aren't rude for no fu'c'king reason ( most of east coast disqualified here )
Mountains when I want them, beaches when I want them
So Far I have come up with North Carolina and Virginia, they seem to have everything
Am I missing any?
Denver, Colorado......minus the beaches.
Just stay the fvck out of Colorado. The longer my commutes to work/the mountains get, the closer I come to destroying the earth and all of it's puny, pathetic inhabitants.

So for you elite members of LRC, considerations of cultural amenities in a potential place to live should be made only by homosexuals? I understand one of you has Utah in your handle, but I would expect better even from a degenerate loser from there.
And yes, theater, restaurants, museums and other cultural amenities matter to most people out there, at least the ones with teeth and the ability to read.
Phukking losers, go back to phukking your sisters.

Ok, dude. You can go to the theatre with your boyfriend and pretended you're smart and sophisticated.

It's ok, Johnny, you can ridicule things you don't understand. Or are you threatened by cultured people? Or scared of gay people? Or just insecure to your core?
North Carolina and Virginia are nothing like California in terms of climate, especially in the summer. Raleigh-Durham is great, but if you're looking to avoid sweltering summers, I'd pass.

I know you want to believe those things.

I don't have to want to do anything...you make it possible all by yourself! You should be proud, little Johnny.
Ohio
This isn't even close. Get yourself a place in Big Sky country, and you'll never have one minute of regret.
I live and run in Big Sky. It is awesome about 9/12 months per year. You just have to be willing to put up with really crap running conditions 3 months/year. I'm retired in early 60's and keep running almost every day in Big Sky country - and still ski a lot during the winter. Blessed indeed.
Ohio is crap running conditions in most places. I've ran in Akron for many years, and am happy I've moved to SC.
I live in Maryland. Been here for 5 years. I also lived in NJ for 2 years when I first came to America. DO NOT RECOMMEND. They are disrespectful af. As for Maryland, I love the culture here. Some bad neighborhoods(but again, which states have none?) Schools are good and XC is abundant. Climates are bipolar but manageable imo. Idk if it is what you are looking for, but I really like it here. If you go to the suburbs, they are nice and quiet(I'm guessing your old and old people like quiet for some reason.)
SC is the WORST! Hillbilly south, incredible heat and humidity from March-October, ZERO culture; SC is the US-state that is most like white trash, RV-living, snake-charming ugliness. I'll take midwestern cities EVERY DAY over that cousin-loving land of cockroaches and illiterates.
If you are a native midwesterner and moved to the right-to-work scumbag south, YOU ARE A TRAITOR to what made this country great.
I hope you become toothless like your neighbors and your house burns down in a climate-change-driven wildfire. Also remember that your kids are going to become culturally like the weirdo confederate-loving southerners in all of their Deliverance-esque glory.
Don't sleep on Philadelphia. Climate isn't ideal in the summer, but winters are not terrible. Fairmount Park is one of the best kept secrets in the country.
It's such a livable city. Cost of living isn't terrible, but it's a great place to live.

Im guessing people you know can see through your act, although they probably don’t tell you. Have fun at the theatre with your boyfriend.

I don't have an act. I'm pretty authentic. But thanks, I'll enjoy the theater with both my boyfriend and girlfriend.
