For context I’ve always been an 800/Mile guy. My best 800 is 1:54 and my best mile is 4:32. I know the mile may seem horrendous but I never really took it serious and am sure I had a 4:20 mid in me... but like they say, would’ve,should’ve, could’ve. That aside I decided to really commit myself recently to see if I could challenge that time and hopefully destroy it.
I’m not in great shape right now(3 Weeks of base and some speed work), but I decided to run a 1k time trial and managed to run a 2:46. I was pretty impressed with this because it’s basically my goal pace for the mile. I ran splits of 34-34-34-32-32 and went through 800 in 2:14. I’m guessing my 800 is probably around 2:02-2:03 right now. I was pretty winded afterwards but the splits and my training tell my I have a bit more. The goal was 2:40, I think I could’ve squeezed a 2:42.
I came here to ask for any insight or advice from LRC.
Has anyone approached a Mile PR similarly, how do you feel about my 800 and 1k times, what do you think I can run right now ?
