Prevent? No. Reduce the risk of injury... yes.
The risk of some injuries increase when you make a lot of fast sharp left turns. I can't name them all, but you can figure it out if you think about where the stresses are. I tend to have problems in my right adductor, right 5th metatarsal from left turns. I also tend to have problems with PF and ankle.
I do a lot of track workouts all year around and I routinely reverse directions between sets whether it's indoor or outdoor. Does it help? Well, it helps me. I'll sometimes feel the onset of a problem so I change directions on the next rep and the problem goes away.
