Interesting thread. Might as well let you all in on what's really going on. By the way, the shoes don't matter if you're talented. and talent doesn't go away.
Recently ran into Gerry Lindgren, drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. In fact, Gerry is coaching him, remotely, from an undisclosed location, but that's no problem -- he's in touch w Ches almost every day. Right now Ches is doing some overdistance base work. it so happens that his coach recommended Ches do this by means of running across the USA, dressed as a woman. Unorthodox, but it seems to be working -- he has reported some incredible weekly mileage, beyond what's actually being logged.
After this phase, Ches is going to relocate to London for his winter and early spring, where he plans to prepare for the London Marathon while living and training incognito somewhere around the Hampstead Heath. So as not to attract attention to himself, he's going to jump into the London Marathon as a bandit, and go for a legit sub-2 hour marathon, by non-Monza-ing it. That's the only way to stick it to Nike, for making him run in Skechers.
After incognito sub-2 hour marathon assault, he is going to transition to his summer track phase, by relocating to a cabin in the woods somewhere in Florida, where he will be doing mega-mileage and speed work, training barefoot on a grass track. I have seen some of the workout plans, and it includes things like 60 x 400. As part of the low-profile approach, he will also begin to grow out his hair, with the plan to step on to the track sometime next summer, facing the world's best, but under the name of and dressed like, a guy from Finland.
So, that's what he's up to so far, and what he has planned for the next several months. Expect great things!
ps. Lindgren's hair was perfect.
