So here's the list of 2018 World Marathon Majors with their approx dates based on the 2017-2018 WMM calendar:
- Tokyo: Feb 25 (2018)
- Boston: April 16 (2018)
- London: April 22 (2018)
- Berlin: Sept 24 (2017 - similar date next year)
- Chicago: Oct 8 (2017)
- NYC: Nov 5 (2017)
The WMM's aren't spread out very well - conducive to two in a year with one of Tokyo, Boston, London and then one of Berlin, Chicago, NYC as he did this year.
It seems that if Galen wants a faster time to his name, while also living up to the American distance-running poster boy image, he has to run at least one of Boston, Chicago, or NYC and it seems a no-brainer that he does NYC next year.
Maybe London for a fast time in the spring before NYC? What would you do if you were him?
Discus.
If you were Galen Rupp, what would your next marathon be?

It will be Boston. -
St. George

If I had Rupp's ability, I'd want to win Boston then New York as my next two priorities. Some other knob can chase the WR, I'd chase major victories
-
I agree he will stay in the US next year. Boston in Spring, NYC in Fall. The guy is a racer, not a time trialer. He is trying to cement his legacy as the greatest American distance runner and that would be best accomplished by winning the big ones in the US , not finishing 4th in Berlin , 2 minutes behind Kipchoge
-
London and NYC is what I would do
I'd go for a fast time, and then get another US marathon out of the way, next year is target Boston and worlds probably -
Pull up a video of any of Rupp's American records on the track and then tell me he is not a time trialer. In major championships he runs to win. He is certainly capable of running fast if that is how the race plays out.
With that being said, it would certainly help me choose if the appearance and prize monies were substantial. I don't know which marathon will be the most lucrative for him coming up. -
If I were him, I'd run London and hire 3 pacers to run exactly 2:05:30 pace for as long as possible to get the American record. Just ignore the rest of the field. Although interestingly enough, if he had done that this year, he would have ended up winning the race since all the leaders blew up.

Nonsense. For a long time everyone said Rupp was a time trialer, not a racer, now it's vice versa? He's one of the fastest 10k runners in history! -
...he'll get the best financial offer from London.
So would make sense to run there. -
His races are so boring(I'm very disappointed Zerseney Tadese won't make the last race more exciting). Evan though he can do a 2:05 he doesn't seem bothered, about getting faster times. He makes so much money as mentioned on other thread so he should just travel to exotic expensive places and do things like lake Baikal marathon. You would think London or Abu Dhabi but Bekele will kill them courses and understandably he will know that it is wise not to face him.

Dubai - go mix it up with the fast Ethiopians
-
he will go to wherever a 2:09 gets the win, cause thats as fast as he can go.

Bekele? Why would Rupp be scared of a guy who DNF's every other race? -
I would do one of those 5k marathons at my local turkey trot!
-
Does he want to win gold in either 2019 or 2020? If he does then he will have to do both rtials and championship in those years. He would be well advised not to run too many marathons in 2018 if this is the case. How about a run in London in April 2018 with his mate Mo? Fast(ish) course, good pacers laid on, quality field, should be capable of going well below 2:09. Then a twelve month break from the 26 mile distance; he should not forget his track career; this speed over 5K & 10K is what will win him a gold in a major championship.

Guarantee it will be boston and nyc

I'd up my respect for Rupp is this is true but I don't know that or Salazar as coach have the balls for NYC. It'll be interesting to see...
not least because there are more specactors on any four blocks of Brooklyn than there were in the whole b.s. Chicago "major" (cough cough). -

This.
He is a household name everywhere but the USA.
Win the big USA marathons- Boston and NY now that he has Chicago and people will know him here.
