That's what some are wondering thanks to the last minute addition of Kenyan Emmanuel Bett - who has the same agent as Rupp - to the field.

Lol.
Wow. All I can say is wow.
If Rupp ends up having his own rabbit, it will be the PERFECT example of why the NOP is so controversial. Getting right on top of the grey line and running all over it.
Rabbits technically aren't illegal but Chicago got rid of them in 2015. So if Rupp has his own pacer, or more likely just someone in the field to make sure the pace is honest, what does that mean? I mean the guy would have had to have been given a race bib so in some ways you could say that race - which got rid of rabbits - gave Rupp a rabbit. That's definitely going to rub some people the wrong way.
I love it though as this just makes this race must watch drama as now everyone will be paying very close to some obscure Kenyan no one would have paid any attention to.
I can see the headline already
RABBIT WINS CHICAGO MARATHON

Rupp should be disqualified if he uses a personal rabbit for a race without rabbits. Whatever time he runs simply should not count.

In 1994: RABBIT WINS LA MARATHON.
Paul Pilkington never stopped. The 2nd place runner tried to sue to be award the "win" because the rabbit should have dropped out.

Just shut-up.
Are we taking bets on where Bett's "injury" will happen on the course that won't allow him to finish the race?
Chicago got rid of rabbits to keep more Americans in the race. Now they have an American that can threaten the AR- of course they let a rabbit in the field! I'm excited about this and really hope Bett is indeed a pace setter for Rupp.
Is this really a "grey line" type move? I don't think so. More like golden boy privelage. I don't have an issue with NOP having every imaginable resource (like getting your own personal rabbit snuck in a race). I do have an issue when it comes to the alleged questionable use of pharmaceuticals - which is what everyone really means by the "grey line".
He's told people in Kenya he's rabbiting. He has no intention of finishing.

Well that and about 5 other things. The androgel massages, Dr Brown treatments, etc.

Is it grey line? Yes it is, says the man who had a personal rabbit for his own marathon pb (Weldon ran the entire race - ran with me for 25 miles and then went ahead for the 26th).
I've got less of an issue if the dude is there just to make sure they don't go out in 67. If the guy wants to make sure they go out in 64 so it's at least a 207 race, I don't have too much of an issue of it but am angry about the lack of transparency and it's still shady.
But if the dude is there to run directly front of Rupp to break the wind, then I've got a huge issue with it.
Once a race starts, everyone is supposed to have an equal opportunity for victory. If one person has a personal pacer, they should be DQd.
Do the elite athletes not have a deadline? How did he enter at the last minute?

Nike money.
His 1/2 marathon 1:02ish PR puts him as a 2:10 marathon and last year he ran 2:16 for his marathon debut
He is a 2:16 marathoner, but a 60:00 min half marathoner, so do the math. He is entering to push the pace, and then drop out after the 13th mile.
It's funny how the NOP are exhausting every resource that they can to ensure that rupp performs at a high level. But this thing might completely backfire on rupp. The fastest marathoner in the world is running the race, as well as Lilesa
and Abel Kirui. Lilesa knows the course, and ran 2:04. Rupp might be setting up his competition more than he is setting up himself. Does he really want to give those guys a pacer , considering he has never run sub 2:09?
I think he would be better off just running on his own and using the others as pacers...LET THEM DO ALL THE WORK!.
I predict the Course Record & AR For American on American soil is safe tomorrow

What are you talking about? His half-marathon PB is better than Rupp's. It's 60:08.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
