Just finished up my 12th week of running since I made the decision to come back to running at 38 years old been away for 15 years. I did a 400m test in week 9 where I aimed to hit 1:15 for the 400m and did it on even splits. At that time I doubt I had much more in me. I was also 157 lbs. I am now 147.5 4 weeks later and have yet to test again. I'm only concerned about this because I feel like if I ant run under 60sec I won't be able to break 5:00mn in 1600.
•Will my 400 speed come back with the 1500m training or am I gonna specific training?
•Will the weight loss help? I'm aiming for 130-135lbs running weight at 5'6
I am currently using Daniels running formula for 1500m training 45mpw plan and averaging 40miles a week. I'm using the alter G for 25% of my running and 75% on dirt, gravel, roads and track. My goal races are in February and March indoor 1500m. I will then move up to 5k, 10k training for 30weeks before beginning 18 months of training to race half marathons. I figured I'd start at 1500m to keep me from going crazy adding mileage. Then increase to 55-65 for 5k 10k, before starting to up it more for HM racing.
I've had previous best of 15:08 in the 5K mid 4s in the mile and under 10 in the 3200m.
I am running a test mile in two weeks at a road race to get a baseline for my Daniels VDOT score.
Should this slow 400m time concern me or will it come down.
