What sense does it make for someone with a size 16 shoe to be running XC? You're not going to be of any appreciable speed.

Hey, I resemble that remark!
I wear size 16. And I'm slow. So your point is proven.

I guess an exception would be for someone who is 6 foot 8. Assuming their legs are proportionally long. Although they'd still get less propulsion energy due to the energy being absorbed over a bigger sole surface area.
Why are you like this??
XC Cleats?
Get your terminology straight.

Ask me for a sketch, and I'll paint, a work, of art.
And I know I can, when it's, for you.
In the light of day, we all believe we can.
It's when we're in the dark, that we need, a hel, ping hand.
Yeah, cleats?
Spikes lol.
I met a cagey (and fast) masters runner who easily won US Nationals at Portland Meadows (Poorland Mudholes) the all-time mudhole of US XC. After the race I noticed his shoes were enormous. He had worn a pair of 13s, on feet that were 11s. He had a wry grin...he had snowshoed, er mudshoed, over the sopping filth while the rest were mired.
i know a dude who wears size 15; he's not slow.
The fastest guy on our team (low 16 min 5k) wears a size 13 flats
What about skinny big feet? I know a great runner with large but super narrow feet.
Ladies love guys with big feet.

Is there a genetic reason for that? Do bigger feet make men look more intimidating in a battle? Is it a signal of masculinity?
I wear size 14 running shoes and spikes. I wasn't the greatest runner when I was in school but I did run 50 point and 2 flat. As a 40 year old I could run a 17:40 5k flat coarse and on hilly ones I was consistently in the low to mid 18s. I ran a 3:00.44 marathon in my one and only marathon also at 40. I'm over 70 now but still run on a daily basis. On a good day I break 30 min. in a 5k. And I still wear size 14. I wasn't the fastest but I have had a lot of fun.
Most inspiring song. Definitely helps with long runs.
Big Feet, Big Fingers, none of that has anything to do whatsoever with what you can accomplish in life.
It certainly does not have anything to do with the size of any other body part either.

Obviously you aren't anyone of appreciable speed since you call it a cleat

What a surprise! Mark Schultz doesn't know anything about running! I never would have guessed based on his well-informed, on-topic, and relevant posts!!
Oh, wait...

Why do they make the 2.5" race shorts in XXL and bigger...? No one that big should be buying those shorts.
