Cowboy Bebop is a good intro for new people.
I'm a huge fan oe Death Note and one piece. I started my anime spree with Death note and now likely to finish Naruto. You can find most of such series on anime website.

Speaking of anime, there are a new one this season about Japanese college students trying to qualify for the Hakone Ekiden (Run Like The Wind). Seems like a pretty interesting anime for runners who like anime.

I hardy watch any anime nowadays (sadly), but I love Neon Genesis Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Dragonball (in no particular order).
I watched all episodes of Naruto but the fillers got annoying... then had to wait.

The "new" Fullmetal Alchemist which came out 9 years ago is much better than the old one. In fact I'd say Brotherhood is my first/second favorite anime while the original is only like my 12th favorite.
