Same here. Don't love the quote but it could be out of context. Regardless, I like Chelimo for many more reasons than I would have to dislike him.

Yeah up until about 2011. And Chelimo has counted for 2 global medal in an era of Simpson (x4), Centro (x3), Rupp (x2), Jager (x2), Coburn (x2), Frerichs (x1), Murphy (x1), and Infeld (x1). That's just off the top of my head. I'm sure I've forgotten someone. The US was hardly suffering before he swooped in to save us.

I tend to believe Chelimo could be clean. I mean in my mind, it never made sense to me that a Chelanga destroyed Rupp in college but wasn't a great pro. I also thought Lawi Lalang underachieved as a pro as did Robert Cheseret.
That being said, I know there is a rumor going around elite circles that these guys go to Kenya and take EPO. I've heard it from a high ranking coach. When I pressed that coach for evidence, he didn't offer any nor would he tell me where he heard it from.
There is no doubt in my mind that Chelimo is a talent. But talent and Olympic silver are to totally different ballgames.

If it helps, think of it this way. EPO benefits you for maybe a few weeks. It isn't a permanent fixture. Now that he is a silver medalist and one of the faces of American distance running, he is tested on an incredibly high basis compared to other athletes. He really wouldn't be able to get away with at this point. So to get a silver medal, then go back to the world championships and get another medal and maintain his level of fitness supports the indication that he is clean.
I am not a huge fan of the WCAP. That said I was starting to appreciate Chelimo after his front running in the 5k at US trials. If he in fact really said the quote etc. I'm back to not giving a crap about him.
As others have said US distance running has been very strong of late, before chelimo.
I would prefer the army get out of the training elite athletes game .
Who else is going to be a legitimate medal contender in the 5000-10,000 for us? Aside from Rupp, how many American born guys have we had legitimately in the hunt for 5k or 10k medals?
And yes, we have had runners get lapped in the 10k at worlds or Olympics.
