She's got absolutely no butt. Her lower extremity mechanics, however, are amazing.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jJ7bWJfp64Paula never actually moved at a high rate of speed. She moved moderately fast for a long time. You need epo or blood doping for that, not big glutes.
God that head bob is distracting.
I have never heard that running fast was all about the glutes.

Oh yeah, ask any biomechanics guru or physical therapist, it's all about the booty.

Have you ever actually tried doing something like that just to see what it feels like? It's hard to believe it feels even half way normal.
Did Paula always run like that or was it an affectation to make it seem like the blood doping wasn't working?
The Ryun/Gammoudi /ElG head bob is another one.

I'll trust every world class distance runner with a tiny butt before I believe a biomechanics guru who got their "PHD" in a strip mall.

It almost looks like some kinda seizure disorder or a severe tick.

They're preaching power lifting exercises (low rep/heavy weight) geared towards strengthening glute max.
Even if distance running was all about glutes that doesn't mean you would need big glutes. You don't need to generate a lot of power to run distance, so you don't need muscle mass. Her glutes would just have to be oxygen efficient.
So why all the emphasis on jacking up the glutes in the weightroom?

Doncha know you need big glutes for the sprints man.
For distance running you need to run your booty off!

It's more about activation than hypertrophy..

Who cares what the strip mall "PHD's" are preaching. They know little about what makes a runner.
More like eternal cellar dweller. Can someone ban this user straight from George RR Martin's wet dream?

If I didn't know otherwise, I would think I was watching someone run in the Special Olympics in that video. Even knowing better, I was waiting for the hideous caterwauling of the 'tard to erupt from her twisted face.
Glutes are for jumping and acceleration. Paula is not known for either (neither am I, being of small but as well)
mods please combine this with the "hamstrings for sprinting" thread

So what is the best way to get "activation"? This high weight low rep thing seems to be emphasizing mass and power.

Sprinting and sprinting short hills is enough for a distance runner I would think.
Increase in mass is not necessary to get what you have firing on all cylinders so to speak.

P Radcliffe was not a typical woman marathoner.
