duderthere's no incentive for Bekele to run a full marathon (aside from cash) if he is slightly injured or a bit off. you can do that in a 5k or 10k when you're 25 years old. he's 35 yrs old, had a long time off from injury. he's being smart by dropping out. marathons take a long time to recover from and he wants the record. he has said himself winning with a slow time does not matter to him. this is a guy who has run 4:03 pace for a 5k. a 2:04 or 2:05 marathon is like him running a 12:57 when his WR is 12:37. it's pointless for his goals. he has one goal left: break the marathon world record.that's all you need to interpret from this article or know about bekele as a competitor at this point in his career
