Is there any talk of them still going for a sub 3:50?
Be cool if they did it in honor of Torrence.
With this and 5th Avenue on NBC on Sunday track fans have another week to be excited.
Did they ever say what his cause of death was?
Johnny Gregorek should do well; his dad went to school, where they are having the race;-)
It's supposed to rain there tonight right? That will throw off the time. Hopefully it doesn't.

Rain will impact results no question.
While seeing a fast race would be great the head to head racing has always been my reason for loving T&F
The community involvement aspect is a great draw for the event rain or shine.
Update on weather says rain starts around 10:00pm Should be good during men's and women's elite races with wind around 7 or 8 mph. Fingers crossed.
What are the expectations on the rabbits?
Rabbit: Daniel Winn, USA, B.A.A., 3:56.7
Rabbit: Heather Wilson, USA, Hoka NJNY TC, 4:29.3

How is 5th Avenue a "track" event?
The men's field is stacked! If they go for it and the weather cooperates, we should see a 3:52 winner and a crowd close behind,
The start times listed on the official webpage can differ, depending on where you look.
Community Races start at 7pm, with each heat getting progressively faster.
An elite race walk and a sub-elite professional 4 minute mile attempt will start at 8:15pm
The David Torrence Men’s 1 Mile Run & Sayville-Smithtown Running Company Elite Women’s 1 Mile Run will begin at approximately 8:30pm
Professional races start at 8:30pm
You risk missing the Elite Race Walk if you turn in too late!

Not a peep from any media or medical / government official, could be anything from aneurysm to 'pool accident' to suicide to accidental overdose. Ridiculous in 2017 there's such an information blackout but there you go, so much "elite" running, RIP David Torrence, whatever the cause.

Could be a Central American mafia hit too.

Generally track fans are fans of the mile. I know few people that are exclusively fans of a single surface.

Unless there is something 'newsworthy' about the manner of death we have seen the last of this local resident dies in pool story.
I'm sure others have had this thought but_____
If I wanted a follow up I'd contact the paper/news station that reported it and specifically the reporter who got the byline. I would then play up the fact he was well know in the US National T&F scene and the death generated a significant amount of internet/social media. comment.
Posting the TV and newspaper reporters email contact info on LR might generate enough traffic to the newspaper and TV station to warrant a special interest story or at least create impetus for the reporter to follow up with local law enforcement and get back to those who emailed.
Did it occur to anyone that the family requested details of the cause of death be kept private? Absent any evidence of criminality or some slimy digging by a journalist that sort of request, if it was in fact made, is likely to be honored.
By flagging this I'm not implying in any way that there was anything about his death that might be embarrassing - I have no idea - but there are people a lot closer to David that bored track fans who are grieving right now. If there's even a chance you might add to their issues I'd suggest letting it lie.
Does anybody have information on the sub elite sub 4 mile attempt such as who is running in it

He didn't called the 5th avenue a track "event." He said track fans have something to be excited about. There's a clear distinction and that was a pretty reasonable statement given that many track athletes will be competing in the 5th Avenue.
Are you this dumb or are you trolling?
