Main question: Assuming a cadence of 180 at ~ 7--8 minute pace, is it possible to be overstriding?
Boring background on why I ask:
Beginner (~3 months in) runner here that seems to be more sore than I would expect. I'm a former cyclist, 5'9" 135lbs, but still haven't been able to go past 20mpw without some sort of tendinitis or minor injury. I'm wondering if it is possibly form related. I agree with most people's advice here of "just run baby" so I'm not forcing a high cadence or a certain landing. From what I've read, over striding can lead to a bunch of injuries and is seemingly the only completely agreed upon form flaw. Due to my slow adaption to running, I'm wondering if maybe over striding is causing my lower leg problems. However, my cadence even at really slow (>9 min) recovery paces is 170. And when cruising at 7-8 min pace as I do on most runs, it almost always averages 182. Faster paces (5min miles) it can be 190+. I'm not forcing this, just the cadence that I get when I "just run". Just want to confirm that I am not over striding. I do sometimes hear scuffing during footstrikes, and the wear on my shoe seems to indicate a midfoot strike, closer to the heel. So I wonder if overstriding with 180+ cadence is possible.
Thanks for the help.
