Would this be considered inappropriate relationship between coach/athlete?

Bizarre behavior. Keep your son or daughter away. This is not a healthy human being. Maybe nothing´s going on but your child is best kept away. People like this tend to be the people with demons.

Perhaps you or another concerned adult could have a word with him about it. Don't take the angle that he is acting inapropriately but moreso that other people may miscontstru the situation and he could be potentially putting himself into a difficult situation that he may not want to be in. Play it like you are concerned about him as well as the girls and see how he takes it.

you have every right to be concerned. No coach should invite his/her high school students over to his/her house. In some districts it is illegal. If the coach is single be very concerned. The man obviously has no life of his own his emotional development is stunted and it just a matter of time before "something happens." I know of a few coaches who have been removed because of sexual allegations. And whether or not they were true these coaches opened themselves up to these allegations because of their behavior.

As long as he hasn't rogered any of them, butt out.

do what HHH said. the whole thing seems a little fishy. someone needs to talk to him but in a non-confrontational manner. i don't think any one of those things is a problem (even writing a song about one of the girls could be done as a joke) but in all it's a little much.

it's illegal in some places for athletes to go to the coach's house? nuts. we used to go over for dinner and movies quite a bit. no foul play.

Call the AD and/or principal. They are the people that should investigate & approach him if deemed necessary.

It's funny, but I recently attended a mentoring conference through work and one of the lectures was about recognizing child molesters. Most of the talk was worthless (ie. a child molester is someone very "charismatic"), but they showed one interview with a molester. He talked about how whenever someone did confront him they would actually talk HIS way out of trouble FOR him. In other words, "I know your not doing anything wrong, but some people may think you are" only sends him the message that he can get away with this so long as he's not dealing with those mystery people that "do" think he is doing something bad. I'm not suggesting that you should be confrontational, but rather let him know that no matter what his intentions are... his ACTIONS are wrong and inappropriate. Be strong when you talk to him and don't make his own excuses up for him.

You people are so judgemental. Caring for someone who's younger than you is a beautiful thing. There's nothing perverted about it. It's true love. And if the girl swallows, you know it's true love for her as well.

While child molester IS a big leap, I don't think this ConcernedCoach guy said that he's calling/AOL'ing his TEAMMATES, rather they are his ATHLETES that he coaches, and it sounds like their conversations get a little personal. Also, it sounds kind of odd if he calls one of his athlete so much that the girls parents have to screen her calls. We used to have pre-meet meals at the coaches house all the time in high school, but our coach was married and had a big family. If this 25 or whatever year old coach isn't married then that could be construed as kind of weird too though.

Writing and recording a song is something a boyfriend might do for his girlfriend, not something a coach would do to a female athlete.

Shouldn't the parent who screens the calls know if anything fishy is going on?

Coach: "Lisa, you've been looking a little plump lately..."

Lisa: "Thanks, coach. Yeah, I've been eating a bowl of ice scream every night to carbo-load and cause my mama says I look anorexic"

Coach: "Lisa! You are not anorexic. You are beautiful girl and you will make some guy some day really happy!"

Lisa: "Awww, thats so nice thing to say, coach"

Coach: "Lisa, would u like to come over for soem ice-cream?"

Highly inappropriate and cause for concern.

These are the parts of your message that concern me. He may just be a lonely guy, but the solution to his loneliness is to develop friendships and attachments outside his team. I totally agree with BJP, I went though a similar program to coach at a catholic school and bacially pedaphiles have a way of crossing the line a little at a time.

If this person is not one, then they will have no problem respecting the parents concerns, etc. If they are one, ignoring the coaches behaviors only invites the next level of going over the line behaviors...as pediphiles slowly groom their victims (they are very selective so as to choose only those victims who they can control - so it starts on a psychological level first by exactly this kind of prying.)

And even if this person is not a pedaphile, this type of behavior is totally inapporapriate and should be directly confronted and ended immediately (no excuses: stop or be fired). Personally, I would fire the individual already because they have already shown poor judgement and I would not want them around kids in my school.

Thanks for all the input. I agree it does need to be addressed, but not in a confrontational way. As I said, I don't think anything 'bad' is happening just yet, but I think the potential for something to happen is there and a lot of the things that are going on are just inappropriate for a coach/athlete relationship.
