Do you need an extra day to recover after a Saturday race, train Tuesday, Thursday. If you want an extra day of recovery before your race train Monday, Wednesday.
Personally I like doing a bit of distance on Monday because I know my HS athletes are taking Sunday off. I also don't over train on Thursday with the "interval session." My ideal week then is a "longish run" on Monday, tempo or cruise interval session on Tuesday, an easy short run on Wednesday and something fast on Thursday. Friday is a shakeout run before Saturday's race. I've also experimented with a Tuesday tempo and Wednesday interval session. However the consistency of a short easy run on Wednesday allows students to schedule work, doctor's appointments meetings etc on Wednesday while keeping Tuesday and Thursday clear for their quality days.
